T-Shirt of the Week: “American Way”

Starting today, the Idakoos blog will have a special post called “The T-Shirt of the Week”. Every seven days, we will recommend a shirt that stands out either due to the quality of the design, because of it’s popularity or due to being perfect for celebrating a special date.

And since the American Independence Day is less than two weeks away, we want to begin with this design called “American Way”. The white-border version printed on a navy blue t-shirt is one of the best combinations you will find at Idakoos, and is a design that works great on July 4. By the way, you can customize the color of the tee and the logo, just like with every shirt at Idakoos.

Peace through t-shirts?

Nuclear testing. These two sole words are pretty scary to anyone who reads the news, because they knowthat is what happened last week: North Korea performed an underground nuclear test and launched several short-ranged missiles, within their territory - actions that were rejected by the international community.

President Obama, his advisors and the authorities of many other governments are trying to solve this issue. And while they coordinate what actions to take and what sanctions North Korea might get, why not take things easier – just a little – and think of creative ways to show the world that we need peace and communication?

As everyone that has seen campaigns and rallys knows: wearing t-shirts customized with great messages are an eye catcher and probably one of the easiest ways to spread the word – any word. Great ideas could be ones with the "Not war, North Korea" or the “Peace in North Korea” designs. For those with a more dark humor, why not take a look a this “Some day, North Korea will master the world” tee. And these are just three among hundreds of designs that you will find at Idakoos. Visit the store now and support peace, too!

Prop 8

Gay marriage has once again become a hot topic in America the past few days due to the Californian Supreme Court’s ruling to upholding the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman, causing hundreds of gay-right supporters to walk on the streets, making a statement against a decision they consider unfair and discriminatory.

Gay couples that got married in California before the November election continue to have their marriages recognized by the state, but the gay community in America still feels outraged and is ready to fight for their rights, including many gay celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi.

Opposing those are apparently 57% of the American people, according to Gallup – a website specialist in polls and market research. And opponents of same-sex marriage have requested a referendum to block the District of Columbia from recognizing gay marriages.

The discussion goes on on TV shows, at bars, restaurants, on the streets... and at Idakoos as well. Whether you are for the ruling or against it, here at Idakoos you will find the right shirt to speak your mind. Whether you are for, against or ambiguous about gay marriage, you will find the right shirt at Idakoos. “Marriage is totally gay”, “Lesbian trapped in a man’s body” and “Happily married to an American” are just a few.

The meaning of Memorial Day

Once again it's memorial day. Most young people just see it as a day off from school, and I admit, I used to be one of them. But given the recent events that brought the need for protection and the Military closer to us and everyone around us, more and more people appreciate the men and women of the military and what they are doing for us.

After experiencing 9/11 many people just came to understand what it is like to be the victim of a terror attack. To most it usually is a sad event written in black on paper or a screen, or even some hurried pictures of people in anguish and pain. But once you are affected by it personally, be it directly or through others, you realize that those pictures and even the sound you hear on the TV just don't do any justice to the real feeling of terror and fright. For once we understand just how save and protected we were, how sheltered a live we lived, how we took our bliss and happiness for granted. And I guess that is why Memorial Day was invented, because unfortunately, the better the protection the less people often realize the work that is behind it. That doesn't mean we are bad people, it just means that the people that are protecting us are doing a great job. Exactly the reason why we should thank them on Memorial Day - not only for what they are doing right now, but also for what they and others have done, maybe even before we can remember.
